Smith Rock Climbing School

Basic Rock Climbing Course

Basic climbing technique such as body position and foot work as well as belaying, repelling and rope management are all covered in this entry level course with a heavy emphasis on getting in lots of fun climbing Recommended for those who have either never climbed before or have only climbed once or twice.

Offered: April 19, May 10, June 14, July 19, Aug 2, Aug. 30
Cost: $125 per person for groups of 3 or more.

Intermediate Rock Climbing Course

You will further hone your skills by climbing longer and more difficult routes. We will study anchor systems in depth and the use of various types of protection. The finale is a multi-pitch climb.

Offered: April 20, May 11, June 15, July 20, Aug 3, Aug. 31
Cost: $125 per person for groups of 3 or more.

Advanced Rock Climbing Course

This course has been designed to teach the basics of lead climbing. You will learn how to rack and carry gear efficiently, sling protection to avoid rope drag, protect traverses and select stances for placing protection.

Cost: $150 per person, limited to 2 climbers

Aid Climbing Course

Learn the basics of this mechanical and sometimes confusing aspect of rock climbing. You will learn clean aid techniques as well as different methods of following aid pitches.

limited to 2 climbers

Self Rescue Course

This course is designed to enable climbers to deal with unexpected trouble on longer routes. Self sufficiency is important in all adventure sports and is particularly important in climbing.

Guided Climbing

We guide all of the classic Smith Rock routes. Come enjoy a full or half day of excellent climbing available at this world class area! Great for individuals or families.

Full Day Cost: $250/day (1 person), $150/day (2 people), $125/day (3 or more people)
Half Day Cost: $230/day (1 person), $125/day (2 people), $85 per person (3 people or more).

Intro to Rock Climbing Course
(2 days)

Consisting of the Basic and Intermediate courses, this is a great way to learn a lot right away.

Offered: April 19-20, May 10-11, June 14-15, July 19-20, Aug 2-3, Aug. 30-31
Cost: $250 per person in groups of 2 or more.

Four Day Climbers Course
(4 days)

This four day course combines the Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced courses along with plenty of classic climbs at Smith Rock. This is a great way to immerse yourself in the sport of rock climbing.

Offered: April 19-22, May 10-13, June 14-17, July 19-22, Aug 2-5, Aug. 30-Sept. 2
Cost: $500 per person

Learn to Lead Seminar
(2 days)

This 2 day seminar is designed for the experienced climber who has the desire to become a competent lead climber. There will be extensive top roped lead climbing with an emphasis on how and where to place solid protection as well as the strategy and psychology of leading.

Cost: $300 per person, limited to 2 climbers per guide.

Alpine Rock Program
(2 days)

Rock climbing in an alpine environment is a very rewarding experience. In this 2 day course designed for beginners, we spend one day at Smith Rock State Park covering the basics of rock climbing. On day 2, we attempt an ascent of Three Fingered Jack or Mt. Washington, putting those rock climbing skills to work in an alpine arena.

Cost: $425 per person for groups of 2 or more.
